چکیده

A "napkin-ring" subretinal membrane is an unusual expression of subretinal proliferation associated with retinal detachment. An 80-year-old man with a total funnel-shaped retinal detachment underwent pars plana vitrectomy, 360 degrees relaxing retinotomy, excision of a subretinal napkin-ring membrane, and silicone oil injection. Histopathologic examination of the removed napkin-ring subretinal membrane revealed the presence of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) as the major source of cells within the membrane. Myofibroblasts were the most common cellular constituents; the total number of these cells may have correlated with the degree of clinical contraction, causing a funnel-shaped retinal detachment. Fibronectin synthesis in subretinal membranes of proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

In situ hybridisation and immunohistochemical studies were conducted on six surgically excised subretinal membranes of proliferative vitreoretinopathy to investigate whether displacement of retinal pigment epithelial and glial cells to subretinal membranes was associated with fibronectin production by the subretinal membrane cells. Fibronectin messenger RNA (mRNA) and fibronectin immunoreactivi...

TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 levels in vitreous and subretinal fluid.

To understand the role of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 and -2 (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) in intraocular diseases, levels of TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 were measured by enzyme immunoassay in 47 patients with various ocular diseases: in subretinal fluid of 7 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and in vitreous of 12 patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy, 4 with proliferative vit...

Vitreoretinal surgery assisted by the 193-nm excimer laser.

PURPOSE Ablating and cutting vitreoretinal membranes using a 193-nm excimer laser-based microsurgical system. METHODS A 193-nm microsurgical system enables delivery of the beam into a fluid medium to cut preretinal and subretinal membranes. Two patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and one patient with proliferative vitreoretinopathy were treated with this new device. RESULTS Gen...

The Pathogeny of Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy.

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is the most important complication of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) and the main cause of RRD surgery failure. This is a review of recent literature data, which concerns PVR pathogeny and risk factors. The occurrence of pre- and subretinal membranes is a consequence of retinal pigment epithelial cells activation and migration, with concomitant par...

Subretinal Perfluorocarbon Liquid for Dissection of Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) is a frequent condition following complex retinal detachments or trauma, and subretinal PVR is a common cause of retinal redetachment. Subretinal PVR removal is challenging and may require creating multiple or large retinotomies, making manipulation of the retina difficult and sometimes hazardous. We propose a novel surgical technique that may facilitate su...
